What is counselling and how it can help me?
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues. Sometimes the term counselling is used to refer to talking therapies in general, but counselling is also a type of therapy in its own right.
Counselling can help you cope with:
a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder
an upsetting physical health condition, such as infertility or illness
a difficult life event, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress
difficult emotions – for example, low self-esteem or anger
many other issues.
At your appointment, you'll be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained therapist, who'll listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems. But they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do.

“Empathy is one of the most potent aspects of therapy, because it releases, it confirms, it brings even the most frightened client into the human race. If a person is understood, he or she belongs."

Why I can help you?
My name is Laura Lonsdale and I am providing private counselling in London. I am a qualified member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy with over ten years of experience in counselling.
My mission is to allow people to be themselves and accept themselves as they are.
I work on a one-to-one basis and listen with compassion and empathy to what brings you to therapy. Everything we discuss is confidential, bringing relief by talking to someone, sometimes for the first time, without being judged.
I believe that being understood can be a large step towards recovery from low self-esteem and other symptoms.
Nothing is too small to bring as everyone goes through difficult times.

What other clients are saying
"Laura is exactly the kind of therapist you wish for: Kind and encouraging, realistic yet comforting. She helped me immensely during an acute period of stress and self-doubt following a chronic health diagnosis, but I've no doubt I'll continue to turn to her whenever I need extra support."

“I saw Laura at a time of emotional crisis, and a paralyzing sense of guilt made it very difficult for me to recover my bounce. In her kind, caring way, Laura was masterful at helping me challenge my assumptions, and provided a guilt-free space where I could prioritize my needs. I owe it to Laura for finding myself on even keel again after a few weeks.”
— Client
“Working with Laura helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. After the very surprising (to me) ending of my 20+ year relationship, I struggled with self-worth, had trouble eating and sleeping, and questioned how I was going to move forward.
Laura's compassion and warmth were just what I needed to work through the issues that I was dealing with. Her positive support made me feel like I wasn't alone and that someone was in my corner.
Sessions with Laura helped me remember that I'm worthwhile, there's more to me than my past relationship and helped me to start on the journey of a new and fulfilling life!"
— Client
"I am really grateful for the professional and kind support Laura has offered me as a very talented Psychotherapist. She softly and effectively guided me and supported me for more than one year and a half. She offered me support in confronting my anxieties, leading me increased self-esteem and perceiving life in a more positive way. Laura supported me through the Covid-19 pandemic, a period of great challenge because of increased pressure at work, as well as deeper loneliness caused by the social distancing context. We met both face to face and online and Laura made it work both ways. I am really grateful to Laura and warmly recommending her as an amazing professional."
